The prevalence of parasitic gastrointestinal infection and hygiene knowledge in elementary school children in Boyolali district

Introduction: Currently, the integrated data regarding prevalence of gastrointestinal parasitic infections in Central Java is still lacking particularly, Simo district which considered to have second lowest percentage clean and healthy living habits (60.25%) Boyolali Regency. Therefore, an estimation intestinal protozoan helminth are crucial order formulate a proper community intervention especially elementary school children Boyolali.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using total sampling method involving first sixth-grade schoolchildren. Stool specimens were examined direct, modified Ziehl–Neelsen Kato staining methods. All compiled analyzed chi square test.Results: Among 127 participants, 17 students (13.58%) infected with protozoans 13 (10.24%) helminth. The age ranged from 6 14 years old. most frequent parasite detected B. hominis (11.80%) while A. lumbricoides (5.51%).Conclusion : In conclusion, there considerable protozoa infection among region. Further wider studies needed confirm these findings.
